Going Above and Beyond: Meet Our Next Compliance & Ethics Champion, Giorgio

Our mission of changing patient lives at the speed of innovation is not complete without our core value of acting with integrity. Luckily, we have an incredibly talented Global Risk & Integrity team that supports and encourages Shareowners all over the organization to go above and beyond in their day-to-day work. We have recently launched a Compliance & Ethics Champion program that recognizes different Shareowners who act as leaders and take initiative to build upon their current skillsets in the compliance area.

Meet our third Compliance & Ethics Champion, Giorgio, Sales Coordinator for Italy. He is going above and beyond to help ensure NuVasive Italy is complying with the many complex privacy and compliance regulations. As a member of MedtechEU-Assobiomedica Association, NUVA Italy has an obligation to comply with their Code of Ethics. Giorgio has helped to align our global grants process with the evolving Code of Ethics to ensure our business practices reflect our dedication to having the highest standards of ethics and integrity. We interviewed Giorgio to learn more about his efforts and how it benefits NuVasive! Read his interview below:

Rosaria, Giorgio, & Frances

What inspired you to become more involved in compliance related initiatives in Italy?

I found it extremely interesting to understand how our company can face and deal with new regulations in the most efficient way. The real and constant challenge of finding the right balance between full compliance with the regulations and an effective business is very motivating. I would like to thank Francesca and Paolo on my team who gave me the amazing opportunity of working on our adoption of the new MedTech-Assobiomedica code of ethics. Without their support, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this recognition.

What do you think is the most significant challenge NuVasive Italy faces with evolving privacy and compliance regulations?

The most significant challenge for NuVasive Italy is to proactively address the continuing changes in the compliance field imposed on our industry, which is in constant evolution. I believe that this ability, to adapt promptly to changes, is inherent to the way NuVasive approaches the market and part of our essence. We grow exponentially every year, bringing with it great challenges, especially with regards to compliance, but at the same time it is a fantastic and motivating experience to be part of a dynamic company.

During the year I worked on the adoption of the new MedTech-Assobiomedica code of ethics. The introduction of the new code and stricter rules can be seen as an obstacle. However, if we look at it from a broader perspective, we can realize how the code of ethics reflects changes needed by the industry to conduct its activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards. I think that the moment of reflection and proactive work that has risen around the adoption of the new code of ethics is the right way to address all future challenges.

How do you feel your efforts have made a positive impact on NuVasive Italy? 

I am extremely happy about the fact that the work done has been appreciated, and that there is a positive atmosphere around the activities we are carrying out. All of this makes me proud and motivated to continue giving my best. I came across an article recently that highlighted how companies see the benefit in behaving with integrity.

When companies operate with integrity, they will attract the best people, be able to protect their brand, and ultimately maximize business performance.

 

The key question the author asked himself is how a company can develop an ethical culture that helps employees find more meaning in their work, attracts more customers and end users, and ultimately helps the business thrive. I hope that the work I will do in the coming months will bring a contribution to answering this kind of question.
