National Intern Day: Featuring Our Summer Interns

National Intern Day, originally started by WayUp, is a nationwide celebration that gives companies the opportunity to recognize their interns. At NuVasive, we aim to create meaningful opportunity and contribute to our interns’ growth and success in the medical technology industry. We believe our interns play an integral part to the future of our company’s innovation.

This year, we have 22 interns who are working across our locations in Ann Arbor, West Carrolton, Aliso Viejo, and San Diego. They currently attend universities all across the country and bring a variety of different perspectives and experiences. The interns are working with Surgical Intelligence, IT, Manufacturing, NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics, Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance, Global Risk & Integrity, Global Implant Systems, and Global Marketing teams.

Within the first month of the program, the interns had the opportunity to take part in Intern Week. During Intern Week, the interns participated in a leadership workshop with Aviva McPherron, CIO of NuVasive, where they gained insight into how our IT organization helps support our company goals. They attended the alumni panel where they got to meet and hear from past interns. Intern alums gave advice on how to grow in the program, seize opportunities, and transition from an internship to a full-time role. In addition, they also got a chance to hear from our Clinical Professional Development team and product managers about the anatomy of the spine and learn about some of our products.

Over the course of the summer, the interns have been involved in several team initiatives, development workshops with the HR team, hands-on activities such as performing an XLIF surgery in the cadaver lab, and intern bonding experiences.

For the remaining part of the summer, the interns will continue to work and gain experience with their respective teams. At the end of the internship, they will present projects they’ve been working on to all NuVasive shareowners during the open house on College Day. We’re excited to see the interns continue to grow and contribute to NuVasive’s innovation this summer.
