NuVasive Hosts The San Diego Blood Bank Onsite for a Blood Drive!

Did you know 60% of blood used in hospitals comes from local blood drives? Last week, NuVasive hosted the San Diego Blood Bank where Shareowners volunteered to donate their blood to local hospitals. The primary recipients were Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego, Sharp Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Palomar Medical Group, and the Veteran’s Association.

A few statistics on blood drives from the American Red Cross:

  • One donation can potentially save up to 3 lives
  • Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood
  • Nearly 21 million blood components are transfused each year in the U.S.
  • Blood and platelets cannot be manufactured; they can only come from volunteer donors

If you donated blood this season, thank you for joining us in saving lives! Giving back to the community is one important component to our culture. Besides hosting the San Diego Blood Bank onsite to give back, departmental teams, individuals, and their families are always finding ways to donate to those in need. Know that every donation and effort in volunteer work is going toward great causes.
